MANopause, the male menopause, a.k.a. andropause
Women may not be the only ones who suffer the effects of changing hormones. Some doctors are noticing that their male patients are experiencing similar symptoms that women experience in menopause. Unlike menopause in women, where hormone production stops completely, male hormone decline is a much slower process which could make it a much harder thing to diagnose.
Men go through andropause, the male MANopause. Every man goes through this, to a different degree, different symptoms and some men show it more than others. What are some of the dangers associated with andropause. Testosterone is one of the hormones we mainly associated with males – when testosterone is low and as it goes down, it can potentially lead to cardiovascular disease.
Some of the symptoms associated with andropause are:
- Erectile dysfunction
- Fatigue
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Sleep apnea
Most men begin showing symptoms in their early 40’s, but it can show as early as 35. If you’re feeling any of those symptoms, get your hormone levels checked by an expert in bioidentical hormones to determine if there is a hormonal imbalance.
Some of the treatments used to manage the symptoms of andropause include using bioidentical hormones, supplements, nutriceuticals, and fitness and stress reduction.
