Bioidentical Hormones. They’re All Talking About It!

BodyLogicMD Applauds as Oprah Strives to Put Thyroid – and Life – in Balance

They’re all talking.

May 2009

When Oprah talks, people listen. And when she hits a nerve, the nation feels it. This year, Oprah has dedicated herself to balance and her own experience with hormone imbalance led the charge. Her journey is well on its way and she has lots of company.

In her first show on the topic, “The Great Debate: Should You Replace Your Hormones?” Oprah and her guests explored how “out of whack” hormones can leave women feeling sick and tired, and provided viewers with a new language to openly and honestly discuss the specifics. Dr. Christiane Northrup, author of The Wisdom of Menopause, and Robin McGraw, author of What’s Age Got to Do with It?, both champions of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), shared their knowledge and experience on the show. Oprah’s website and magazine delved deeper and provided viewers and readers with resources, including the BHRT experts at BodyLogicMD.

After Oprah’s first show on hormone imbalance, BHRT and the other options available to women who were experiencing perimenopause and menopause, her viewers and website visitors (more than 22,000 of them) begged for more information. Never one to shrink from a challenge, Oprah complied in a big way. She invited Suzanne Somers, author of Ageless, The Naked Truth About Bioidentical Hormones and Breakthrough: Eight Steps to Wellness, to extend and enhance the conversation about bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). Suzanne, who dedicated a chapter of Ageless to BodyLogicMD, shared both her struggles with hormone imbalance and her success with focusing on nutrition, fitness and BHRT. /p>

Then Dr. Phil and his wife, Robin, covered menopause, perimenopuase, andropause and thyroid disorders on his show “What’s Hormones Got To Do With It?” Robin McGraw shared her story and showed women how to go through the change with dignity and grace. Dr. Phil and Robin also started the conversation on andropause – the male menopause – to let men know that they haven’t been left behind in the age-management revolution. For men experiencing the symptoms of andropause, including weight gain, muscle loss, depression, decreased energy and erectile dysfunction, there is a solution. Dr. Phil’s show gave many women and men hope for a great love life, better balance and more control over their lives for years to come!

With Oprah and her fellow seekers, we continue the journey toward balance – and look forward to keeping our visitors and patients on the leading edge of bioidentical hormones, or as Dr. Northrup describes it, “the wave of the future.”
